Conservation in NG43

vsco59b9e3c682c99.jpg

In this module, we worked with local conservation experts to conduct a transect and ecosystem study. Our results were gathered by recognizing animal spoor, identifying vegetation, and sighting predominant species, and were later sent to a long-term conservation study sponsored by the Botswana government.

After the implementation of the hunting ban in Botswana, the NG43 concession had to reconsider their method in which to attract tourists. This is where the potential of using the area for animal photography came into question.

I focused mostly on whether the addition of boreholes would increase animal density and movement of antelopes, to ultimately answer the question of whether NG43 could be turned into a tourism area instead of a hunting concession.

How does Botswana’s government track the density and movement of wildlife in the Greater Okavango Delta?
