Ethnic Conflict

Pre-Diner rituals.jpg

Through literature circles, research, and real-world experience, we will better understand the ideas of ethnicity, identity, and the conflicts that arise from misunderstandings. By identifying different aspects of the spectrum of intergroup relations, we will showcase their place-based understandings of ethnic conflict.

How do we integrate in a world of different ethnic groups?

Module Overview

Summative Piece

This project's final task was open ended, giving each student the opportunity to answer the driving question in the way that they felt was most interesting.

Our Instructions

31 May.JPG

Myself, Ryleigh, Ina, and Amelie, decided to create a mixed media performance consisting of slam poetry, physical theatre, and playwriting.

In our piece, the main character experiences a series of events during her journey that highlights the fallacies in our current system of handling ethnic conflict. We are answering the driving question by bringing to light these central issues, which includes miscommunication, the altered influence of media, as well as the incorrect assumptions that result from this. Since the answer to this question doesn’t lie in a single-line response, our summative will instead make the audience understand how integration in a society is unsuccessful; by approaching it in this way, we hope to potentially spark solutions that will resonate differently for each individual. Furthermore, by allowing the audience to create their own links to how these predicaments ultimately contribute to the conflict instead of the latter, it grants us the freedom to convey more than just a simple solution to an incredibly complex question.
